Stupid coffee table!

Me: *SMACK* “OWWWWW!!!!!”
Mom: *TURNS ON LIGHT* “Are you okay?”
Me: “Ya, I’m fine….I smacked my leg on the stupid coffee table trying to walk in the dark…”

I hate when this happens and for me it seems to happen alot. I  seem to be drawn to these kind of accidents. whatevah I try to walk in the dark and I always end up hurt. I try to convince myself that I know where everything is and that I can’t possibly walk into anything. That’s how I feel about my walk with God and my devotional life. I feel like I know the rules and laws that God has told us in the Bible so I don’t need to read it every day…..just sometimes so I can have a “refresher course”.
In youth group we read the verse Psalm 119:105, “ Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path”. I have always liked that verse. I felt I could understand much easier than many of the other verses in the Bible. I understand the usefulness of the light, and linking that to the usefulness of the Bible was a real light bulb moment. No matter how many times I think that I have everything down pat if I’m not reading the Bible and praying every day I always fall back into sin. ALWAYS. I made a New Years resolution…well that sounds weak…it’s something stronger than that…I’m going to read my Bible more and pray.
Turning on a light makes a world of difference. I can see the coffee table and I can walk around it. The same with reading the Bible. It’s a light that exposes sin and I can see the sin and with God’s help I can avoid it. Reading the Bible doesn’t make me perfect. I’m still going to sin, but reading and praying draw me closer to God.
The Bible isn’t only laws. The Bible gives me an insight to the heart of God. The Bible helps me to discover what God’s will for my life is. It’s full of hope and promise. The Bible tells stories. It helps us to see how God wants us to treat others. It’s the light to my path.
The Bible truly is the Lamp to my feet and a Light to my path. The Bible shows you how to walk through life. Human nature makes you want to know what lies ahead. You always want to know how something will end, but having the lamp on your feet causes you to focus on the here and now. You can enjoy each moment and see God working in your life.
It’s only January 5th and I can already see the difference in my life. I can’t wait to see what this year will bring in my walk with God.

Mom: “Turn on the light, silly. It’ll help you see better”
